Beagle must have leash training. Maybe you are questioning this statement. As we know Beagle is a hunting dog breed. So Beagle has basic natural instinct to hunt the target by his scent. The ability of smelling from the Beagle is superior one as a hunting dog. Most of the Beagle need no training for this hunting job, it is just flow out naturally by genetic. If you want to have a Beagle then leash training is the first priority training to be done for your Beagle since he is puppy. This Beagle has strong will to hunt for the intriguing scent that he has caught and nothing can stop the Beagle if he is off leash. As the Beagle owner you need to keep your dog on leash so that he won’t just running away to hunt the tantalizing smell that attract the Beagle. You can use the reward training to make this leash training easier to perform, just hold the dog treats on your left hand and give the reward whem the Beagle can walk continuously by your left side. Using verbal training also help on training progress. You can use the word “Let’s go” when are going to walk and “Stop” or “Hold” to make the Beagle stop. Sometimes your Beagle can start to pull the leash because of something attracts him and make his “hunting dog” basic instinct wake up and go run for it. When this happen you can control the Beagle pulling by doing a clockwise turn 180 degree or moving to another direction. This will make your Beagle pulled back to your left side again and will make the Beagle feel like he is going to be left if not catching up with you. Just repeat this leash training exercise until your Beagle learns that he has to walk by your left side and not allow to pull the leash.
