When having puppies training for the new puppy it is better to use the rewards and treats method of puppies training that are proved to be more effective and kinder for owners and the puppies rather than using the punishment method. To do the puppies training you only need basic dog training equipments. That should include the standard dog collar, dog training leash and some dog treats. When choosing the collar make sure to choose the comfortable one like nylon or leather material, don’t use collar and lead made of chain which can cause pain and injury to young puppies’ neck and even owners’ hands during the puppies training.
When you buy the dog collar makes sure that the size is fit to your puppies’ neck. Measure it by using your finger, the correct size of the dog collar is if you are able to put 2 fingers under the dog collar. Then you should also have to make sure that the collar won’t slip out over the head when puppies try to get it off. This is important check because puppies can get lost after release the collar when you are at crowded or unsafe places. As puppies will grow up fast you must do the routine check on the collar measurement. ID tag on the collar will also help in case you lost you puppies when wandering alone without the leash.
On doing this method of puppies training with the rewards and treats method, timing on giving the rewards is the key of success. You have to give the reward directly when the puppies respond well and never give the reward when puppies respond badly. Remember that you must be consistent during the puppies training so puppies will get the messages that he will be rewarded if doing the right things and so is otherwise.
Other than treats as an option you can choose the dog toys to lure his attention during the puppies training. This dog toys usually work for older puppies. You can use the chewing toys or toys that can be tugged for puppies training. Although these dog toys work better to lure puppies’ attention during the puppies training, they are not easy to use like the food treat as a lure. After the dog toys have been given you have to take it back from the dogs and it is not always easy to do with this method of puppies training.
So choose the rewards which work best with your puppies. Here are couple tips on this puppies training with rewards method. Using different treats every weeks so your puppies won’t get bored with the taste. When using the dog toys make the puppies training more like rewarding games so it will be more fun for your puppies.
Choose the time of puppies training before meal time so puppies will be hungry enough to get the treats but not very hungry condition which will make puppies lost his concentration. Use small treats so puppies won’t get full before the puppies training schedule are done.
