Every dog lovers want to have an obedient and dependable four legged friends as their new member of the family. Labrador is one of the most favorite family dogs to be owned as new family member by most people.

Proper Labrador training is needed if you want your Labrador to be obedient and dependable for your family members. Although Labrador has reputation as a quite and obedient dog, easy handled and trained, some without the proper Labrador training this dog can become a troublemaker dog. As we know from the story of Marley and Me, that Labrador cause many trouble for their owner because the lack of the Labrador training. But remember every dog will also give their love so much to their owner no matter how bad the dog behaved.

Below I will give you some tips to handle the Labrador training at your house and by yourself so the Labrador can achieve their goal to be an obedient family member at your home.

First. You need to be the leader of the pack. At this point you need to be alpha position in your Labrador training. Dogs are known as descendant from wolves, so like wolves they move and stay in packs. In nature of wild life the alpha position always come to the strongest one in the packs. They always battle for the leadership of the packs.

In Labrador training with the situation of family pack, you need to show and convince your Labrador that you as his owner are his leader and alpha position.

This concept means that your Labrador need to obey the rules that have been made by you and follow the command that given by you during the Labrador training. You must not fail in this first stage. Once the Labrador feels that he is the alpha then you will lose control over your Labrador.

Second. Prepare your puppy for Labrador training. Before the basic Labrador training like sit, stay, come, potty and many others, you need to do early puppy Labrador training. You can start this early Labrador training about two weeks after born till eight weeks.

Puppy Labrador training is about associations and socialization, introducing the puppy with the family members, place to sleep, potty, play, the crate and kennel. Just keep playing with the puppy just like you play with your baby at young age. The purpose of this puppy Labrador training is to develop social relationship with many people especially family members as he grows.

Third. Basic Labrador training. When Labrador is about eight weeks you can start the basic Labrador training like sit, stay, come and others. Dog obedience training is also taught depending to the Labrador physical condition, stamina, and concentration.

Forth. The communication with the dog. This is very important step to do in Labrador training. Some people called this dog whisperer. You need to understand your Labrador feeling like happy, sad, nervous, or confused. It is your responsibility in Labrador training to communicate with the dog. Dogs never know if they are wrong or right if we don’t tell them just like our kids, so we need to encourage the desirable behaviors and prevent the unwanted behaviors.

The last but not least. Positive training method. As we know the Labrador training should run in positive way, using reward training method should be your first option and punishing the Labrador physically should be avoided. Most Labrador can success the Labrador training quicker with this reward training method. But some don’t respond well to this Labrador training method, if your Labrador is one of them then you should try to consult with dog trainers about other training methods.
