Training collar is the most important and useful equipment that can be used in dog or puppy training. Collar and leash training is the one of the easiest and most important training that must be mastered by the puppy or dog.

First of all you need to buy a training collar that match to your dog and the training you want to do. You need to measure you dog’s or puppy’s neck before going to the pet shop so the training collar will fit well to your dog’s neck. Make sure you are able to insert two finger under the training collar to check that collar fits the dog’s neck properly.

Nowadays there are many kind of variety training collar sold by the pet shop. Electronic shock training collar is one of the best collar to train your misbehavior dog or puppy. It uses electric shock sent from the transmitter which operated by the owner or trainer to the dog when they do something wrong. The shock level can be adjust manually according to the dog’s respond. Big dog will not give any respond when shock in the smallest level but different for the small breed. You need to use this electronic training collar very carefully so during the collar training the dog will not be stressed by the electronic shock. Usually used to control dog’s barking.

Another common type of training collar is choke training collar. Different from the electronic training collar, this collar gives specific amount of pressure on the neck when the leash is tightened and will relieve the pressure as soon as the leash is loosened, so it is easy to use and not harm the dog or puppy. Remember not to let the puppy alone with training choke collar put on and the leash is tied up. If snagged, it can cause injury to puppy’s throat and the worst case can choke the puppy to death.

When train your dog or puppy with the training collar, first you need to make the puppy accept the training collar. Just simply put on the training collar without leash attached, let the puppy experience with it, in first time they will try to get rid of the training collar around his neck. Just let it be for a few days till the dog or puppy accept the training collar.

Next step attach the light leash to the training collar for first time, let the dog or puppy experience with it, drag it all around and get used to it. It is important to supervise them cause sometimes puppy get the lead stucked and the training collar will choke their neck, so you must be around to get rid of it.

When the puppy or dog get used to it, try to use the real leash with you holding the end of it. It will make the puppy or dog fell their movement is limitied now. And when they are trying to force the lead they will get the pressure and respond to it, at that time call their name to get back to you and loosened the leash to release the pressure, praise and treat them for getting back. Beware for the dog respond and not late to loose the leash to release the pressure so the training collar doesn’t hurt the dog’s throat. Repeat this training and you will get the best result.
